On October 25, CAS President Eva Zažímalová signed the first research collaboration agreement with an American research institution: the University of Memphis.
The formal signing ceremony was held at 10 a.m. local time in the FedEx Institute of Technology. The American side was represented by UofM President M. David Rudd, along with UofM Provost Karen Weddle-West and executive vice president for research and innovation Jasbir Dhaliwal, while the Czech side was represented by CAS President Eva Zažímalová.
“Internationalization of our research portfolio is a key strategic priority for us,” Rudd said. “Strong partnerships like this with the Czech Academic of Sciences will allow us to leverage research funding on both sides of the Atlantic based on our respective strengths,” he added.
The agreement opens door for more extensive and meaningful interactions among researchers and students with the goal of developing high-impact, grant-funded projects. Both institutions are pursuing collaboration in areas of bioscience, transportation, or cybersecurity, but also criminal justice or Egyptology.
