The Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences, P.R.I., is a public research institution focused on research in philosophy and related disciplines. Within the Czech Academy of Sciences, it is the largest institute dedicated to the humanities and social sciences: it employs almost 250 persons whose shared goal is to engage in excellent internationally competitive research, and to the public domain in the Czech Republic and abroad.  

The Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague is seeking to appoint:

 

1 post-doc position (1.0 FTE)

 

The post-doc will join the Interdisciplinary Research Lab for Bioethics (IRLaB), which is based at the Department of Applied Philosophy and Ethics of the Institute of Philosophy. The position is for 2,5 years and the successful candidate would ideally start July 1, 2022. The post-doc is expected to relocate to Prague and to work with the principal investigator, Dr. Geoffrey Dierckxsens, and the IRLaB team.

We are looking for a researcher who has obtained Ph.D. in philosophy and specializes in bioethics, ideally focusing on research concerning the awareness of the body in health care and related topics such as gender, technology and cognition. A background in these fields and familiarity with hermeneutical concepts (imagination, narrative, lived existence) is a plus. The successful candidate will be expected to publish in quality peer-reviewed journals for bioethics (e.g. Bioethics, Cambridge Quarterly of Health Care Ethics, Narrative Inquiry in Bioethics). Preferably the successful candidate will have several articles already published and/or accepted for publication in one of these or similar journals.

 

We are looking for candidates who obtained Ph.D. after July 1, 2015 with a relevant research background, a strong motivation for research, and competence to carry out both independent as well as collaborative research. The starting date for the appointment is July 1, 2022 (or shortly after upon agreement). Starting monthly salary is 40.000 CZK gross (to be increased up to 45.000 CZK depending on research results).
