prof. PhDr. Eva Semotanová, DrSc.

Prof. Eva Semotanová studied history and archivistic at Faculty of Arts of the Charles University in Prague. Since the 1984 she is an employee of the Institut of History CAS in Prague, in the years 2012‒2017 was its director.  She deals with historical geography, historical landscape, historical cartography and the history of cartography. She applies a number of interdisciplinary methods, promotes the use of reconstruction maps and atlas cartography in historical work. The main thematic circles of her research include the urbanized landscape and its development; in the study of urbanization processes, she focuses inter alia on the development of the Prague agglomeration from the end of the 18th century with an emphasis on the turn of the 20th century. In connection with the given problem, she also resolves the questions of the transformations of industrial landscapes as cultural heritage. The centre of the attention of E. Semotanová also includes historical regions, particularly Kłodzko (part of the Euroregion Glacensis), its map depictions and landscape changes in the 18th century (the Czech Baroque landscape in Central European space). Completed several stays in Germany, Austria, Poland and Italy, regularly participates in specialized international conferences. She is a member of the board of doctoral studies on a 4 universities. She is a member of the scientific society Polskie Towarzystwo naukowe, she works in the editorial boards of the Czech Historical Review and Historical Geography. Significant awards i. e.: „Magnesia litera 2015“ for the project Eva Semotanová – Jiří Cajthaml a kol.,  Akademický atlas českých dějin/Academic Atlas of the Czech History, Praha 2014, The František Palacký Honorary Medal for Merit in the Historical Sciences (2020).
