Institute of the Physics of Materials of the CAS

In 1994–1999, he completed his master’s studies in the field of Engineering Mechanics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Brno University of Technology. In 2002, he defended his doctoral dissertation work in the field of Engineering mechanics and later left for a study stay in France at the École Centrale de Lille (in 2002–2003). Since 2003, he has been a scientific employee of the Institute of Physics of Materials of the CAS.

He deals with the fracture mechanics of composite materials and material fatigue particularly with a concentration on setting the residual fatigue life of structures. He is the (co)author of over 130 publications in journals (covered by database Scopus) and many other professional papers and technical reports.

He participated in the preparation of the project of CEITEC – Central European Institute of Technology. Since 2010, he has been the director of the organisational unit of the CEITEC at Institute of Physics of Materials. He heads the department Experimental studies and modelling of structure, which he founded. He is a member of the management of the Institute of Physics of Materials of the CAS and a member of the council of the workplace. He was an investigator/co-investigator of tens of project of national and internationals providers. He also deals with the issue of research infrastructures. In the period 2013–2017, he was a member of the evaluation panel No. 108 Material Sciences and Engineering. In 2017-2021, he was the member of the Academy Council.

He has led a number of student papers from baccalaureate through to doctoral dissertations. He also deals with the popularisation of science and pedagogical activities. In 2009, he became a Reader (Associate Professor) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Brno University of Technology. He is a member of the field council of the doctoral study programme “Applied Sciences in Engineering” and the commission for state final examinations of all levels of university studies.
