Institute of Microbiology of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position PhD position in ecosystem processes in heathland soils under climate change in Prague.

 

Laboratory of Environmental Microbiology (Prague, Czechia), group of Petr Kohout (https://kohoutlab.com/) and Centre for Environmental Sciences, Hasselt University (Hasselt, Belgium), Ecotron research team Nadejda Soudzilovskaia and Francois Rineau (https://www.uhasselt.be/en/instituten-en/cmk-centre-for-environmental-sciences/infrastructure/ecotron) is looking for a motivated PhD student.

The person will join the consortium of the Excellence Research Centre Project “INTER-MICRO” that aims to identify threat associated with global changes on soil microorganisms with consecutive effects on ecosystem processes.

The new PhD student will also gain from our long-term research collaboration with prof. Petr Baldrian (head of the Laboratory of Environmental Microbiology) from the Institute of Microbiology, Czech Academy of Science.
The proposed PhD position will gain from a long-term experiment simulating the effects of various future climatic scenarios on heathland ecosystem, run in the Ecotron centre at the Hasselt University. The PhD project aims to identify changes in microbial processes (e.g., carbon and nutrients cycling) in heathland soils under future climatic conditions.


WE SEEK:
• University degree in the field of biology, botany, ecology, or similar
• Excellence in English and good communication skills
• Motivation for scientific work within the frames of the project
• PhD study will take place within one of the doctoral programmes at Charles University in Czechia
