Selection Procedures

The Masaryk Institute and Archive of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position postdoctoral position (Political and/or social history of Central Europe 1848–1948) starting on January 1, 2022.

Eligibility

This position is open to post-docs, who in the moment of application can have max. two years after acquiring Ph.D. (excluding possible parental leave and/or long-term stay abroad. In that case the maximum time span between acquiring Ph.D. and applying can be 4 years). The candidates must hold their Ph.D. degree at the time of applying for the position.

Other requirements

Active knowledge of English or German; partial knowledge of at least one of the following languages will be of advantage: Czech, Polish, Slovak, Slovene, Hungarian.

Terms

The position is a part of the Czech Academy of Sciences’ special program for funding post-docs. The selection will be a result of a two-staged process. The Institute will select one to two candidates whose materials will be passed on to the Presidency of the Czech Academy of Sciences, which makes the final decision. In the first stage, selected candidates might be invited for an interview, in the second stage, the selection will be made only on the basis of the submitted materials.

Masaryk Institute and Archives is a mid-sized humanities research institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It conducts original research in the fields of modern history, history of science, political science and literary studies and brings together historians, literary historians, political scientists, linguists and archival specialists. It also administers more than 600 archival collections, including those connected to the first Czechoslovak president Tomáš G. Masaryk and his closest collaborators as well as to the history of science from the end of the 18th century to the present.

The Institute provides all the necessary equipment for research, library services etc. Researchers are expected to be residing in Prague. The Institute can offer assistance in finding accommodation for non-Czech applicants. During their residence, researchers are required to produce academic publications and participate in all activities of the Institute (research seminars, conferences and other events). We reserve the right not to fill this position.

The starting date of the position can be negotiated.

  2. Publication list.
  3. Letter of motivation.
  4. Project title and project proposal (in two to four pages) including planned deliverables (doc/docx). 
  5. Rough work plan (up to 4500 signs in doc/docx), please indicate the preferred length of the contract between 12 and 24 months.
