
2023 Scientific Prizes of the French Embassy

The Embassy of France in the Czech Republic is annoucing a call for applications for the Scientific Prizes 2023 in the following scientific fields (conditions of participation attached):
- Chemistry(Jean-Marie Lehn award)
- Medicine (Albert Schweitzer award)
- Pharmacy (Sanofi award)
- Computer Sciences (Joseph Fourier award)
- Nuclear Sciences (Henri Becquerel award)
- Environment and Climate ("Make Our Planet Great Again" award)
- Social Sciences and Humanities (Jacques Derrida Prize)
Applications are open to PhD students enrolled in a doctorate cycle or postdoctoral fellows who have defended their PhD dissertation in 2022 or 2023, younger than 33 years old as of 1st May 2023, of Czech or Slovak nationality, with full-time employment at a CAS institute.
Interested candidates can send the following documents in English:
- Professional CV (including rewarded grants and awards)
- List of publications (including impact factor and quartile)
- Annotation (of the project that the candidate would present before the jury (about ½ page in English)
Please send your applications at the latest by 16 March 2023 to the e-mail address whalen@kav.cas.cz, please mention the name of the prize you are applying for in the subject of the e-mail. The research topic (content of the project), not the field of doctoral study, is the determining criterion for applying for individual awards, but for the award in the field of medicine, working in a hospital or medical institution is a requirement.
The CAS coordinators will then select the candidates to be nominated for the awards on behalf of the CAS based on the submitted documents. According to the rules (see individual conditions) the coordinators will nominate given number of the best candidates.
These candidates will then present their research in front of selection committees during May and June (exact dates can be found in the respective prize conditions).
The winners will be officially announced on 22 June 2023. Awarded candidates will receive financial support and, for the first two places, also a scholarship in France (may differ depending on the prize). The award ceremony should also be attended by the supervisors of the nominated candidates' dissertations and representatives of the relevant CAS institutes.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the Albert Schweitzer Award in medicine is only open for applicants working in a hospital or in a related healthcare institution with routine medical or paramedical activity.
