Institute of Czech Literature of the CAS announces a competition for the position DATA SPECIALIST.
The Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences announces a competition for the following position:
DATA SPECIALIST to the Department of the Czech Literary Bibliography (CLB).
Job description:
- Conversion of analogue bibliographical records using OCR methods and machine learning;
- Checking and analysing data for the purposes of the Czech Literary Bibliography;
- Preparing and possibly automatically enriching datasets for further processing;
- Conversion and retroconversion of data suitable for inclusion in the CLB databases.
Optionally, if interested:
- Related data research in the field of bibliographic and literary studies data;
- Participation in the development of ČLB software tools.
Requirements:
- Interest in work with databases, data-driven research or digital humanities;
- Knowledge of the Python language;
- Knowledge of OCR techniques;
- Experience of working with spreadsheets (MS Excel, Google Sheets, etc.);
- Analytical approach to problem solving;
- Diligence, conscientiousness, independence, teamwork skills;
- Willingness to learn new things;
- Basic command of Czech, sufficient for team communication.
Advantage:
- Advanced knowledge of the Python language;
- Knowledge of and practical experience in machine learning;
- Knowledge of Linked Open Data concept (especially Wikidata);
- Knowledge of library database systems (especially Aleph, VuFind, KOHA) and formats (MARC21 and MARCXML);
- Knowledge of JSON and XML formats processing;
- Interest in (Czech) literature, orientation in literary studies;
- Experience with digital humanities projects;
- At least essential knowledge of Github platform;
- English proficiency sufficient for professional academic communication.
