Institute of Czech Literature of the CAS announces a competition for the position RESEARCHER IN DIGITAL HUMANITIES.

The Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences announces a competition for the following position:

RESEARCHER IN DIGITAL HUMANITIES to the Department of the Czech Literary Bibliography (CLB). 

Job description:

  • Data-driven research on Czech literature primarily based on bibliographical data;
  • Analysis of bibliographical and non-bibliographical literary data;
  • Data modelling and statistical analysis;
  • Participation in the presentation of research results in spoken and written form;
  • Preparation and automatised enrichment of datasets for further processing, including conversions of data from external sources;
  • Participation in developing the CLB software tools (if interested).

 

Requirements:

  • Interest in working with data, data-driven research or digital humanities;
  • Basic knowledge of the Python language;
  • Experience of working with spreadsheets (MS Excel, Google Sheets, etc.);
  • Analytical approach to problem solving;
  • Diligence, conscientiousness, independence, teamwork skills;
  • Willingness to constantly and independently learn new things;
  • Knowledge of English at a level required for the professional academic communication, both spoken and written;
  • Basic command of Czech, sufficient for team communication.

 

Advantage:

  • Advanced knowledge of the Python language;
  • Ongoing, completed, or at least planned doctoral studies in the humanities, social sciences, and related fields that methodologically use data analysis, data modelling, and statistics;
  • Experience with data modelling and statistical analysis;
  • Interest in (Czech) literature, knowledge of literary studies;
  • Experience with digital humanities projects;
  • Experience with presenting and publishing scientific outputs;
  • Knowledge of Linked Open Data concept (especially Wikidata);
  • Knowledge of library database systems (especially Aleph, VuFind, KOHA) and formats (MARC21 and MARCXML);
  • Knowledge of JSON and XML formats processing;
  • At least basic knowledge of Github platform.
