Head of IT OFFICE

For the position of Head of IT Office, we are looking for a colleague who will become a solid part of the broader management of the institution and ensure the smooth operation of its IT. If you have demonstrable experience in team leadership, project management, in-depth knowledge of IT issues and you enjoy working in an international academic environment, we are looking for you
What will you be responsible for?
• Managing the overall IT operations, including strategic planning and budget oversight.
• Leading a small and skilled team of IT specialists (6 people).
• Collaborating with service providers at Charles University, the Czech Academy of Sciences, and external vendors for hardware, software, and licensing.
• Preparing and administrating public IT tenders (including drafting tender documentation).
• Driving IT development projects through project management, analysis, and hands-on implementation.
• Overseeing IT security, including risk management, continuous updates of security policies, business continuity planning, disaster recovery plans, penetration testing, and security audits.
• Supporting the development of our internal workflow system in collaboration with an external supplier.
• Installing, configuring, and administrating Linux servers and associated system applications (e.g., radius, OSSEC HIDS, PWM portal, DNS, EPM, Postfix, Squid, stunnel, Veeam Backup, syslog).
• Managing and developing core network systems (firewalls, routers, backbone switches, Wi-Fi, email gateway, Active Directory, Microsoft 365).
• Acting as the organization’s Data Protection Coordinator (GDPR), in cooperation with the DPO at Charles University and relevant authorities at the Czech Academy of Sciences.
• Maintaining comprehensive system and user documentation and ensuring knowledge transfer within the team.
What do we expect from you?
• A university degree in a technical field.
• Strong command of English for both written and spoken communication.
• Proven managerial experience and project management skills.
• Broad IT expertise, including security, networking, servers, applications, and backups.
• In-depth knowledge of IT security, risk management, business continuity, NIS2 requirements, and GDPR compliance.
• Hands-on experience with network management (configuration and troubleshooting).
• Proficiency in administering server operating systems (Linux and Windows).
• Independence, reliability, precision, and a systematic approach to work.
• A proactive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to learn.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
