Description of the job:
We are looking for candidates for the position of Head of Laboratory of Developmental Biology.
The Laboratory of Developmental Biology focuses on gene and protein expression during early embryonic development and oocyte meiotic maturation in mammals. The main model organisms of the laboratory are cattle and pigs.
Our research interests are primarily concentrated on the following areas:
- Identification of proteins whose degradation is crucial for normal preimplantation development
- Identification of genes and signaling pathways regulating oocyte maturation and developmental competence
- Mechanisms of embryonic genome activation during the preimplantation development
- Molecular studies of the role of oocyte nucleolus in the regulation of embryo development

The head of the laboratory is also responsible for:
- The lawful, economical, and responsible use of funds and property
- Proposing to the Director changes in the organization of the laboratory's activities and pay changes for the laboratory staff
- Leading a team of subordinate co-workers.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in biological or biochemical fields
- 5 years of documented research experience in developmental biology of mammals
- Advanced knowledge of molecular biology of early mammalian development and previous practical experience with oocytes and preimplantation embryos of mammals
- The author of publications focused on the molecular mechanism of early mammalian development
- Experience in grant applications and management of grant projects
- Significant international scientific experience (e.g. cooperation with foreign authors, which resulted in joint publications) is an advantage
- Experience in managing people
- Knowledge of the Czech language at the level of ability and fluent conversation with Czech staff on the team
- Good oral and written communication skills in English
Conditions:
- Full-time or possible part-time position will start at from January 2024 and will be for a minimum of 12 months; extension is possible depending on progress
- evaluation period of 5 months
- salary 45.000 – 50.000 CZK per month (depends on work experience, quality of work and evaluation)
