Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position Postdoctoral position - Department of Supramolecular Polymer Systems.

Job description and responsibilities:

The Department of Supramolecular Polymer Systems focuses on studying and exploiting self-association processes and supramolecular structures in polymer systems in solutions, dispersions, and bulk materials. The general aim is to master self-organization processes in polymers and copolymers, leading to nanostructured materials for nanotechnology and biomedical applications.

The successful candidate will conduct independent, concept-driven research in the field of novel polymer-based hybrid materials, stimuli-responsive polymers, composites, and 2D materials, in particular:

  • Polymer-hybrids particles for controlled drug delivery;
  • Composites of polymer and 2D materials as drug-delivery systems;
  • General macromolecular, colloidal, and interfacial hybrid systems with potential as biomedical materials;

using the following experimental methods:

  • Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS),
  • Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS),
  • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM),
  • 3D-printing, electrospinning,
  • Know-how in hydrogels, nanoparticles and scaffolds is also required.

The position also includes interpreting experimental data, publishing research results in high-impact journals, and actively participating in national and international research projects.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Chemistry, Macromolecular Chemistry, or a related field, defended no later than 2 years from the application deadline;
  • demonstrable hands-on experience with SAXS, WAXS, AFM, NMR, 3D printing, electrospinning, and particle preparation;
  • Knowledge of in vitro biological evaluation (release kinetics, Franz diffusion, HET-CAM assays, etc.).
  • an outstanding publication record: at least 10 scientific publications (as author or co-author);
  • very good knowledge of spoken and written English,
  • an active, creative, and independent approach to scientific problem-solving,
  • ability to work both independently and effectively within a team.

We Offer

  • stimulating and diverse work at a prestigious research institution,
  • participation in national and international research projects,
  • subsidized meals and on-site cafeteria,
  • 5 weeks of annual leave plus 3 sick days,
  • professional training and career development,
  • employee benefits (contributions to pension insurance and long-term savings schemes or a leisure benefit card),
  • flexible working hours,
  • subsidized language courses organized by the Czech Academy of Sciences,
  • access to training and recreational facilities and additional employee benefits.

Additional Information

  • Application deadline: 28.2.2026
