Institute of Czech Literature of the CAS announces a competition for the position Junior Researcher in the German-Bohemian Studies Team.

The Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences announces a public selection procedure to fill the following position:

The Germano-Bohemist Team, operating within the Department of 19th Century Literature, conducts research into Czech and German literature from the Czech lands and their relationships from the second half of the 18th century to the mid-20th century. Its members also participate in the publication of contemporary works and sources for understanding the literature and culture of the Czech lands and important works from the history of the field. To complement the team, which will focus on researching the relationship between gender and nationalism in the years 2026–2030 as part of the project Gender and/or Nation. Central European Women Writers in the Long 19th Century, we are now looking for a junior researcher.

Job description:

  • Active scientific work in the field, participation in the department's research tasks, primarily in the project Gender and/or Nation. Central European Women Writers in the Long 19th Century
  • Individual research in the field of Czech and German literature of the Czech lands in the 19th and 20th centuries in its local and European contexts
  • Publication of scientific works, participation in professional conferences and popularization activities
  • Archival research

Minimum requirements:

  • Education in Czech or German literary studies or another related field; doctoral studies already begun is an advantage
  • Knowledge of 19th-century Czech and German literature in the Central European context and of contemporary literary theory
  • Publications in the field commensurate with the stage of the applicant's academic career
  • Experience with collective literary or popularization projects (an advantage)
  • Standard PC skills, good knowledge of MS Word and other office programs
  • Active knowledge of Czech, English, and German, or possibly another language
  • Reading German Kurrentschrift is an advantage

  • We offer a fixed-term contract until the end of 2027 (with the possibility of extension for another three years)
  • The place of work is the Czech Republic
