
SAPEA Call for Expert Nominations – Ultra-Processed Foods (UPF)

SAPEA has announced a call for nominations of experts to a new interdisciplinary Working Group that will prepare an Evidence Review Report on the topic of Ultra-Processed Foods (UPF).
The aim of the project is to assess the available scientific evidence on the health and ethical impacts of UPF consumption and to provide an evidence base for future EU policymaking in this area.
SAPEA is inviting academies to:
- nominate experts to serve on the Working Group,
- nominate experts to participate in the stakeholder workshop and subsequent peer review,
- submit relevant scientific studies or reports that could serve as supporting evidence.
SAPEA is seeking experts in the fields of public health, medicine, nutrition, food science, agriculture, environmental sciences, economics, public policy, and the social or behavioural sciences, with expertise relevant to ultra-processed foods.
The deadline for submitting nominations is 21 July 2026 (internal deadline).
Each nomination should include:
- a brief justification of the nominee's expertise (in English),
- a detailed curriculum vitae (CV) (in English),
- a letter of recommendation from the Director of the institute.

SAPEA is part of the European Commission's Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) and, through the network of European academies, provides independent scientific evidence reviews and syntheses to support evidence-informed public policymaking.
