MIT-Czech Republic IOCB Foundation Seed Fund – opening of the call for joint project proposals

Following the cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (CAS), the IOCB Foundation Seed Fund and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) within the MIT-Czech Republic IOCB Foundation Seed Fund, a call for joint project proposals is opened from 1 September to 3 December 2026. The call is open to all scientific disciplines.
The program that was created in 2021 is a collaboration between MIT, the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the CAS, and its subsidiary IOCB Tech. It is now funded by the IOCB Foundation, which contributes $100,000 per year to the program. The fund supports 3 to 5 new collaborations each year between scientists from CAS research institutes and universities in the Czech Republic and MIT partners, up to $25,000, with funding available to cover travel and accommodation costs associated with working meetings and research internships. Successful applicants are announced in early spring of the following year. Grantees have roughly 20 months to complete their projects.

The mission of the CAS
The primary mission of the CAS is to conduct research in a broad spectrum of natural, technical and social sciences as well as humanities. This research aims to advance progress of scientific knowledge at the international level, considering, however, the specific needs of the Czech society and the national culture.

Prof. Radomír Pánek started his first term of office in March 2025. He is a prominent Czech scientist specializing in plasma physics and nuclear fusion.
