The Embassy of France in Czech Republic informs that the first stage of the contest “Ma thèse en 180 secondes” across Central Europe will be happening in Prague on April 16. Students have until April 6 to apply, by registering here.
The national round (for participants enrolled in the Czech Republic) is organized by Charles University, the association Gallica and the French Institute in Prague, with the support of the Embassy of Belgium the Embassy of Canada, and the Embassy of Switzerland in the Czech Republic. It will be held at the French Institute on April 16, 2026. The best candidates of the Czech selection will then be able to take part in the Central Europe regional selection, which will take place in Vienna on June 15.
This scientific communication and public speaking contest is open to any French speaking PhD student enrolled in a Czech university for the current academic year (2025-2026), or those who have obtained their doctorate after August 2025. In a maximum of three minutes, candidates will have to present their thesis in French, using a single slide and try to convince the jury and the public.
The competition allows doctoral students to talk about their research work to a non-specialist audience by learning how to explain a complex subject in simple terms. From mathematics and literature to biology and architecture, it is open to all disciplines.
You can find more information about the competition on this website.
