EASAC Report: Meat Alternatives

The international organisation EASAC has published a new report on meat alternatives, summarising current scientific knowledge on plant-based, insect-based, fermentation-derived and cultivated proteins. The report notes that the EU is preparing a Protein Strategy, but current policies are lagging behind technological developments.

The authors call on the EU to act swiftly to support innovation, ensure food security and meet climate and biodiversity goals. Future generations are likely to eat less meat, which may be both necessary and beneficial. The report offers recommendations on how to reduce meat consumption and make healthier and more sustainable choices easier for people.

Professor Václav Hořejší from the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences contributed to the report as a peer reviewer. The report is available here
