Selection Procedures

10/21/2026
Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position Postdoctoral Researcher in Bubble Dynamics and Interfacial Transport Modelling.

The Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ICPF), Prague, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the Research Group of Multiphase Reactors.

Research focus

The position focuses on mathematical and numerical modelling of bubble dynamics and transport processes at gas–liquid interfaces. The aim is to understand how hydrodynamics, interfacial mobility and surfactants influence bubble motion and mass transfer.

The successful candidate will develop modelling approaches in close collaboration with experimental researchers. Initial work will address individual bubbles and interfacial transport, providing a basis for subsequent studies of bubble interactions and more complex multiphase systems.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop and implement models of bubble motion and coupled momentum and mass transfer.
  • Investigate surfactant adsorption, interfacial transport and Marangoni stresses, and their effects on bubble behaviour.
  • Verify numerical methods using analytical solutions and benchmark cases, and validate model predictions against experimental measurements.
  • Collaborate with experimental researchers to design studies and interpret results.
  • Publish results in international journals and present findings at scientific conferences.
  • Contribute to research proposals, collaborative projects and student supervision.

Required qualifications

  • A PhD in chemical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, fluid mechanics or a related discipline, completed by the starting date.
  • A strong background in fluid mechanics, transport phenomena and mathematical modelling.
  • Experience in analytical or numerical solution of differential equations describing fluid flow or heat and mass transfer.
  • Programming and scientific computing skills.
  • Research achievements demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications.
  • Motivation to develop expertise in bubble dynamics and interfacial transport.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with experimental researchers.
  • Good written and spoken English.

Desirable experience

  • Computational fluid dynamics using OpenFOAM or comparable software.
  • Convection–diffusion problems, boundary-layer transport or transport to reactive surfaces.
  • Numerical verification and validation against experimental data.
  • Multiphase flow modelling, interface-resolving methods or surfactant transport.

We offer

  • An opportunity to develop a research profile in bubble dynamics and interfacial modelling.
  • Close collaboration with experimental researchers studying bubble motion, coalescence, breakup and mass transfer.
  • Opportunities for international collaboration and involvement in the planning and solving of research projects.
