Institute of Rock Structure and Mechanics of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position Geoscientist Lab Leader of Low Temperature Thermochronology Laboratory, part of the Department of Neotectonics and Thermochronology.

The Department of Neotectonics and Thermochronology, Institute of Rock Structure and Mechanics, seeks an applicant for the position of research scientist and manager of low temperature thermochronology laboratory. Our fully established laboratory is equipped with an Alphachron helium extraction line, an up-to date mineral separation and chemical laboratory as well as all required microscopic equipment. The lab has also two fully trained technicians (geologists and chemist) in charge of mineral separation and chemical dissolution/spiking.

The candidate will lead our (U-Th)/He thermochronology laboratory and join the team of department of Neotectonics and Thermochronology and perform research in these disciplines. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated experience in running a thermochronology laboratory, as he/she will be responsible for the complete helium dating process, including training of students and visitors, and maintenance of laboratory equipment. The selected candidate will be encouraged to lead his/her own research with freedom to develop the methodology, will be expected to write proposals, collaborate with other interested groups, and publish scientific papers.

Position requirements:

1) Candidates are required to have completed the PhD degree before starting the position. The start date for the position is as soon as possible.
2) Although various backgrounds will be considered, experience in low-temperature thermochronology and in operating a device for helium extraction and analysis is preferable.
3) Experience in leading a lab or team is required
4) Good interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative style of research are required.

Initial appointment is for 3 years with a possibility for extension and it has the potential for becoming a permanent position after first evaluation and good progress.

Salary and benefits:
In accordance with Institute´s guidelines depending on position (postdoc, research assistant, senior researcher etc.) experience, qualification, etc. (starting from 1500 EUR/month). Earning enhancement will depend on projects and collaborations. Social benefits (25 vacation days, 5 sick days, meal allowance).
