Selection Procedures

11/04/2026
Institute of Physics of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position Junior Specialist for Computer simulations of the response of solids to ultrashort pulses of XUV/x-ray radiation.

We are seeking a motivated junior researcher (Master’s graduate, PhD candidate) to join a research team focused on the theoretical and computational study of interactions between condensed matter and ultrashort pulses of extreme ultraviolet (XUV) and X-ray radiation.

What you will do

You will contribute to the development and application of advanced computational methods for investigating ultrafast electronic and structural processes in solids exposed to intense XUV and X-ray pulses. The research aims to provide a fundamental understanding of radiation-induced dynamics occurring on femtosecond and attosecond timescales, relevant to modern photon-science facilities such as free-electron lasers and synchrotron sources.

What we expect

  • knowledge of the mechanisms governing the interaction of ultrafast laser beams with matter
  • practical skills in simulating interactions and subsequent processes using various methods (MC, MD, TB, rate equations, etc.)
  • at least one result in this field published in an impacted journal
  • an undergraduate student in nuclear or physical chemistry, chemical physics, solid-state physics, or similar disciplines
  • fluent communication in English (B2 level minimum), both written and spoken

Why join us

  • An opportunity to work on cutting-edge research
  • A competitive salary
  • Participation in multidisciplinary scientific projects
  • Working in an international team and a stimulating environment
