Institute of Sociology of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION AT INSTITUTE OF SOCIOLOGY OF THE CZECH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES.

Job description 

The successful candidate will join Work Package 8 of the CoRe project "Beyond Security: Role of Conflict in Resilience-Building". The project investigates the causes and manifestations of social and political polarization, including how disruptive events such as economic shocks, migration, and the war in Ukraine intensify polarization and weaken societies’ capacity to manage conflict and respond to crises. The researcher will use longitudinal data from the Czech Attitude Barometer and/or the Czech High School Panel Survey to examine how individual, contextual and/or institutional characteristics are associated with changes in social/political attitudes, alongside other attitudes and behaviors related to personal or societal crises. This full-time postdoctoral position combines research with research management responsibilities. The researcher will be supporting the data collection and will conduct research in close collaboration with the team leader and other project members.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • provide support regarding fieldwork and data management
  • analyze survey data
  • contribute as a main author or co-author to academic articles and research reports
  • present his or her research at conferences and seminars

Employment requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Psychology, Sociology or other relevant discipline
  • advanced methodological skills and experience with quantitative survey analysis
  • experience with analyzing panel data
  • excellent spoken and written English
  • experience with network analysis is an asset

Duration of employment: 18 months (1.1.2027–30.6.2028)

Employment level in hours per week: 40 (full-time)

Work location: Department of Social Stratification at Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Prague, Czech Republic)
