Institute of Thermomechanics of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position Research Scientist in the Laboratory of Rotational Laser Vibrometry.

We are looking for a suitable candidate for the position of Researcher Scientist in the Laboratory of Rotational Laser Vibrometry for the Department of Dynamics and Vibrations. Type of contract: temporary for 12 months with an option to extend to a pernament contract. The planned start date of the job may be subject to change depending on the actual progress of the selection process.

Job Responsibilities

• Experimental measurements and development of measurement procedures.
• Analysis of experimental data.
• Finite-element modelling and numerical simulations.
• Development of algorithms for signal and time-series processing.
• Application of artificial intelligence and machine-learning methods.
• Preparation of technical documentation and scientific publications, and participation in research projects.

Requirements

Education Level: Master Degree or equivalent

Skills/Qualifications

  • Completed university degree (M.Eng. or M.Sc.) in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Recent graduates are encouraged to apply – Opportunity to pursue a part-time Ph.D. at the Czech Technical University in Prague.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering measurements, data analysis, numerical modelling, signal processing, control systems, or mechanical vibrations.
  • Basic knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, or data science

  • Basic knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, or data science.
  • Experience with finite-element modelling.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Motivation to perform both experimental and computational research.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Experience in mechanical vibrations, rotordynamics, modal analysis, or rotating machinery diagnostics is an advantage.
  • Experience with sensors, instrumentation, data-acquisition systems, or laboratory experiments is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of filtering, FFT, order tracking, and time-frequency analysis is an advantage.
  • Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or C/C++ is an advantage.
  • Experience with data preparation, regression, classification, anomaly detection, neural networks, and predictive modelling is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with machine-learning libraries is an advantage.
  • Interest in combining physical models, experimental measurements, and machine-learning methods.
  • Relevant experience gained through a master’s thesis, student projects, internships, or personal engineering projects is an advantage.
  • Willingness to participate in experimental campaigns, prepare technical documentation, contribute to scientific publications, and support research projects.
  • Knowledge of Czech is an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Languages: ENGLISH – Level: Excellent

Terms of Employment

Type of Contract and Duration:
A 12-month fixed-term employment contract, with the prospect of permanat work contract. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply – Opportunity to pursue a part-time Ph.D. at the Czech Technical University in Prague.
