Selection Procedures

07/01/2026
Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the CAS announces an open competition in accordance with the Act No. 283/1992 Coll. on the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Statutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a position Postdoctoral position - The Department of Biological Models.

Postdoctoral position

Job description and responsibilities:

The Department of Biological Models focuses on the development and testing of promising polymer conjugates and proteins (therapeutics) suitable for the treatment of tumors, resistance to tumor therapy, and conjugates designed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

The successful candidate will conduct independent, conceptually-driven research in the field of novel conjugates that are capable of carrying and releasing growth factors, chemotherapeutics and antibodies. These systems will be tested in vitro in a traditional 2D setting or, newly, in a semi-perfusion 3D system with preformed vasculature and established tissue structure (tumor, Langerhans islet); the so-called “organ on chip”. In these systems, the binding of conjugates to target receptors, the release of growth factors/drugs and the efficacy of treatment in a 3D organ on chip system will be studied in particular. The main projects will include:

•   Research on revascularization of Langerhans islets for the treatment of type 2 diabetes

•   Development and biological efficacy of antibody-drug-conjugates or antibody-polymer-drug-conjugates in the treatment of cancer (immunotherapy)

using the following experimental methods:

  • Determination of cell viability using colorimetric and fluorescent assays
  • ELISA
  • Flow cytometry
  • Fluorescence and confocal microscopy
  • General knowledge of working with primary and cancer cell lines is also required.

The position also includes designing experiments, interpreting experimental data, publishing research results in high-impact journals, and active participation in national and international research projects.

More information about the department is available at the web page of the department.

Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • A PhD degree (or equivalent) in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology or Biochemistry
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with preparation of tissue cultures, flow cytometry and with basics of confocal microscopy
  • An outstanding publication record: at least 8 scientific publications (as author or co-author)
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English (B2 level and above)
  • An active, creative, and independent approach to solving scientific problems
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively within a team.

We offer:

  • Stimulating and diverse work at a prestigious research institution
  • Participation in national and international research projects
  • Subsidized meals and on-site cafeteria
  • 5 weeks of annual leave plus 3 sick days
  • Professional training and career development
  • Employee benefits (contributions to pension insurance and long-term savings schemes or a leisure benefit card)
  • Flexible working hours
  • Subsidized language courses organized by the Czech Academy of Sciences
  • Access to training and recreational facilities and additional employee benefit
