SAPEA call for nomination of experts on the topic "Successful and timely uptake of Artificial Intelligence in science in the EU"

SAPEA has published a call for nominations of experts for a new Evidence Review Report on "Successful and timely uptake of Artificial Intelligence in science in the EU". SAPEA will undertake the Report that informs the Scientific Opinion (deadline by February 2024). The Report will be forwarded to the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors to the European Commission (GCSA) to give a scientific advice to EC. In order to inform this Opinion, SAPEA is requested to assemble a working group of experts and to organize several expert workshops to gather the relevant evidence.

Through this call for nominations, SAPEA will identify:

  1. Experts with applied knowledge to participate in evidence-gathering expert workshops.
  2. Experts with a very wide knowledge and understanding of the use of AI in science to be part of a small working group.

Non-exclusive examples of areas of expertise that may be of relevance are provided below:

  • Application of AI to disciplines ranging from the STEM fields (physics, chemistry, nanotechnology…), to medicine and health sciences, and social sciences, economics and the humanities.
  • Application of AI to interdisciplinary topics and grand challenges (e.g. climate change modelling).
  • AI-related fields such as data science, statistics, modelling, automation and robotics.
  • Epistemology and foundations of science in the context of AI.
  • Research assessment and evaluation, scientific publishing, copyright and intellectual property, peer review.
  • Education about information and data literacy for the digital age.
  • Human-Computer Interaction.
  • Cognitive adaptations to AI.
  • AI policy and legislation.
  • AI application to research and innovation.
  • Geopolitical science in the context of AI (e.g., geopolitical implications of AI).
  • Cybersecurity and defence.

The primary mission of the CAS is to conduct research in a broad spectrum of natural, technical and social sciences as well as humanities. This research aims to advance progress of scientific knowledge at the international level, considering, however, the specific needs of the Czech society and the national culture.

Prof. Eva Zažímalová has started her second term of office in May 2021. She is a respected scientist, and a Professor of Plant Anatomy and Physiology.

She is also a part of GCSA of the EU.
