Danube Academies Conference 2019

On 30 and 31 October 2019, the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) in cooperation with the European Academy of Sciences and Arts was held this year’s Danube Academies Conference in Prague. The conference was held under the patronage of Dr. Tomáš Petříček, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. It took place partly at the Head Office of the CAS and partly at ELI Beamlines research infrastructure in Dolní Břežany. Two main topics of the conference were Science Diplomacy and Broad Collaboration and Research Infrastructures.
The first day of the conference focused on science diplomacy - its potential to draw attention to excellent scientific results and its role in establishing important partnerships abroad.
The second day of the conference concentrated on European research infrastructures, such as DANUBIUS-RI, ELI and HiLase projects.

The mission of the CAS
The primary mission of the CAS is to conduct research in a broad spectrum of natural, technical and social sciences as well as humanities. This research aims to advance progress of scientific knowledge at the international level, considering, however, the specific needs of the Czech society and the national culture.
President of the CAS
Prof. Eva Zažímalová has started her second term of office in May 2021. She is a respected scientist, and a Professor of Plant Anatomy and Physiology.
She is also a part of GCSA of the EU.
