On Tuesday 11 November from 9:00 to 11:00 Embassy Lecture: Intraseasonal Climate Variability and Its Impact on Society: South Africa and the Czech Republic in Partnership. Speakers for the Czech Academy of Sciences will be Dr Lhotka and Dr Urban from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the CAS.
The Embassy Lecture promotes bilateral scientific cooperation between South Africa and the Czech Republic, advancing science diplomacy through collaboration between the Academy of Science of South Africa, the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in South Africa This initiative supports national and international science policy, innovation, and sustainable development by fostering knowledge exchange and strategic collaboration.

The mission of the CAS
The primary mission of the CAS is to conduct research in a broad spectrum of natural, technical and social sciences as well as humanities. This research aims to advance progress of scientific knowledge at the international level, considering, however, the specific needs of the Czech society and the national culture.
President of the CAS
Prof. Radomír Pánek started his first term of office in March 2025. He is a prominent Czech scientist specializing in plasma physics and nuclear fusion.
