UK – V4 Frontiers of Science online meeting

An online conference called the UK - V4 Frontiers of Science Meeting 2021 took place on 10 and 11 June 2021.

This scientific meeting is a collaboration between the Royal Society and the Academies of Sciences of the V4 countries. The Frontiers of Science meetings are intended to bring together outstanding early-career scientists to not only discuss exciting advances and opportunities in their own fields but to also learn about research at the cutting edge of other disciplines.

The two-day meeting was spread across four broad topics. On the first day, the Neuroscience session took a place with the leadership from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Life Science and Pandemics session. Life Science and Pandemics session was led by the Czech Academy of Sciences with Luděk Berec from Biology Centre as CAS Co-Chair.

Within the Life Science and pandemics session, there were sub-topics such as  From Ecological Niche to SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic. Epidemiological Risk in Anthropocene, How to Bridge the Gap Between Field & Laboratory Ecology: Impact of Warming on Drosophila-parasitoid Networks (Mgr. Jan Hrček, Ph.D., Biologické centrum AV ČR), Rapid Antigen Mass-testing Intervention in Slovakia, Spatial and Demographic Heterogeneity of COVID-19 Transmission and Emergence of VOCs and The Work of the Hungarian COVID-19 Mathematical Modelling and Epidemiological Analysis Task Force.

The second day of the meeting was divided into Astronomy / Astrophysics session which was led by the Polish Academy of Sciences, and Material Science / Chemistry session led by the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

The primary mission of the CAS is to conduct research in a broad spectrum of natural, technical and social sciences as well as humanities. This research aims to advance progress of scientific knowledge at the international level, considering, however, the specific needs of the Czech society and the national culture.

President of the CAS

Prof. Eva Zažímalová has started her second term of office in May 2021. She is a respected scientist, and a Professor of Plant Anatomy and Physiology.

She is also a part of GCSA of the EU.
