African tropical montane forests store more carbon than was thought

26. 08. 2021

The inaccessibility of African montane forests has hindered efforts to quantify the carbon stored by these ecosystems. A remarkable survey fills this knowledge gap, and highlights the need to preserve such forests. An international team, including the scientist from the Institute of Botany of the CAS, showed that those forests store more carbon than was thought.

The study was published in the Nature journal. It also showed how fast African montane forests keep disappearing.
