Prof. Ing. Jiří Čtyroký, DrSc. graduated at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague in 1972. Since 1974 he has been with the CAS Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics (now Institute of Photonics and Electronics). Starting from 1985, he spent two years at the Dortmund University, Germany, supported by the A. v. Humboldt Foundation. In 1990 he received the DrSc. degree from the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. His interest lies mainly in the field of physics and numerical modeling of guided-wave photonics and plasmonics. He has long-term cooperation with the research teams at the Czech Technical University, the University of Technology in Brno, the National Research Council in Canada, the University of Malaga in Spain, etc. He is also active as professor at the Czech Technical University. His publication record at the Web of Science contains more than 150 items, with more than 2000 citations (without self-citations), h = 26. He has been active in technical committees of a number of international conferences and workshops. He is member of several international professional societies (IEEE Life Senior Member, OSA Senior Member, FInstP, CPhys).

He has been a long-term member of the Science Council of the CAS, for almost two periods he served as its chair. During his membership he participated, among others, at the proposal and preparation of rules of the Praemium Academiae – the most prestigious award for researchers of the CAS. He has repeatedly chaired the Coordination committee for ranking CAS researchers into the highest qualification grades and served as member of Supervisory Boards of the Institute of Physics and of the Institute of Geology of the CAS. He is member of the Board of the Institute of Photonics and Electronics. For two periods he was member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University, and he is also member of several Boards for PhD study programs at the CTU and the Charles University in Prague.
