prof. Ing. Michal Hocek, CSc.

Michal Hocek is a research group leader at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the CAS, professor of organic chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Charles University and the head of the Joint Laboratory of Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry of IOCB and CU. He is a supervisor of many Ph.D. students (33 graduated Ph.D.s and currently 20 Ph.D. students) and number of postdocs from all over the world.

The Hocek research group works in bioorganic and medicinal chemistry of nucleic acids and their components. In medicinal chemistry, they develop new nucleosidor and nucleotide cytostatics and antivirals and study their mechanism of action. In bioorganic chemistry they develop syntheses of labelled or modified nucleotides and study the enzymatic syntheses of modified nucleic acids and their applications in diagnostics or chemical biology.
