15. 05. 2019

On Tuesday, May 14, Rosaura Leonora Rueda Gutierrez, the ambassador of United Mexican States, visited the Czech Academy of Sciences. With representatives of the CAS she discussed the possibilities of further development of scientific cooperation between both countries.

The ambassador visited the CAS at the invitation of the CAS President Eva Zažímalová, following up on the event “Science and Innovation Day Mexico – Czech Republic,” organised in April by the Mexican Embassy together with the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade and attended by the CAS Vice-Chair Jan Řídký.

The goal of the meeting was chiefly to discuss further strategy in the area of advancement of scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries, renewal of bilateral cooperation of the CAS and the Mexican National Council of Science and Technology (Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología, CONACYT), which has been suspended by the Mexican side in 2016, and a possibility of a future visit by a CAS delegation in Mexico or a CONACYT delegation in the Czech Republic.

Besides the ambassador of Mexico and the president of the CAS, the participants of the meeting included the Secretary of the Embassy Miguel Ángel Vilchis Salgado, Member of the Academy Council of the CAS and Chair of the Council for International Affairs Hana Sychrová, and the International Cooperation Officer responsible for cooperation with Mexico Danuše Pazourková.

“In the past, cooperation with Mexican research institutions covered a broad range of scientific fields, and the Czech Academy of Sciences hopes that in the future, we will be able to renew this cooperation,” commented Hana Sychrová.
