Prof. Ing. Jiří Čtyroký, DrSc.
He obtained his master and PhD degrees from the Czech Technical University (CTU) in 1968 and 1972, respectively. Since 1974 he has been with the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics (presently Institute of Photonics) of the Czech Academy of Sciences, in the period of 1978–2002 as Head of the Department of Guided-Wave Optics, presently as Deputy Director. In 1985–1986 he was with the Dortmund University in Germany supported by A. von Humboldt Foundation, working in the field of integrated optics. He regularly reads several courses in bachelor, magister as well as doctoral studies at the CTU, from 2005 as full professor of applied physics. He is also member of boards of several doctoral programmes at the Charles University and the CTU.
His main professional interest lies in physics, theory and design of linear and non-linear integrated optical structures and devices. He authored or co-authored over 130 journal papers and conference contributions which were cited more than 1600 times, six book chapters and 12 patents. In the period 1993–2010 he was active as member of the reputed European Conference on Integrated Optics, for two periods he served as a topical editor of OSA and IoP journals. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and OSA and Fellow of the IoP.
